Norma UK: Disaster at Oulton Park The third round of the VdeV UK series saw the number 7 car of Garofall and Phillips again qualify on pole and set the fastest lap of the race. However that was all they were to achieve as the car was put out of the race by a back marker who hit the rear of the car under braking at the Shell Hairpin and then t-boned the side of the car for good measure. Phillips, who was driving the car at the time of the crash, said “this is a huge disappointment for us. We were leading the race and I was only 3 laps into my stint when the 73 car just drove into the back of me. We lost 11 laps repairing the car and eventually decided the damage was too great to continue safely. Driving standards like this do not help the image of endurance racing or the series.” Norma UK will be racing again at Snetterton on the 19th July.
